About Our Island Whiskey Barrels
Genuine Kentucky bourbon barrels built from American white oak, brought to Vancouver Island for garden planters, fire pits, home aging, events, and more.
Straight Out of Kentucky Bourbon Country
Every barrel we sell starts its life at a cooperage in Kentucky. Coopers select American white oak for its tight grain and natural resistance to leaking, then shape it into staves, assemble the barrel without any glue or nails, and char the interior with an open flame. That char layer is what gives bourbon its caramel and vanilla character during aging.
After a barrel has gone through its distillery runs, the oak stops imparting flavour to the spirit and it gets retired. That is where we come in. We source these retired barrels and bring them to Vancouver Island, where people use them as garden planters, fire pits, water features, furniture, home aging vessels, event decor, and more.
When you pick up a barrel from us in Errington, you are getting the real thing. Genuine char, real stave wear, steel hoops, and actual distillery history. No reproductions, no fakes.
What Can You Do With One?
People use our Kentucky bourbon barrels for all kinds of things. Here are the most popular ones on Vancouver Island.
Garden Planters
Half barrels are a go-to planter for flowers, herbs, vegetables, and ornamental grasses. The charred interior makes them naturally rot-resistant, and they look great doing it. Our most popular use by far.
Fire Pits
Line a half barrel with fire-safe material, drop in a burner insert, and you have a backyard fire pit with real character. Looks way better than anything from a big box store.
Water Features
Half barrels make solid self-contained ponds or fountain basins. Add a small pump, some river rock, and aquatic plants and you have something worth looking at.
Rustic Decor
Full or half barrels work as side tables, display stands, or patio centerpieces. Every barrel has its own patina, so no two look the same.
Home Aging
Full barrels still carry residual bourbon. Use them to age your own spirits, cocktails, hot sauce, maple syrup, or craft beer at home.
Events & Weddings
Barrels set the tone fast at weddings, markets, and outdoor events on Vancouver Island. Cocktail tables, card stations, aisle decor. They work for all of it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do your barrels come from?
All of our barrels are authentic Kentucky bourbon barrels. Built from American white oak, charred inside, and used to age bourbon. Once the distillery retires them, we bring them to Vancouver Island.
How much do your barrels cost?
Half barrels are $65 CAD and full 53-gallon barrels are $125 CAD. Wholesale pricing is available for orders of 10 or more.
Can whiskey barrels be used as planters?
They can, and it is the most popular thing people do with our half barrels. The char provides natural rot resistance and the white oak holds up well outdoors. Drill a few drainage holes in the bottom, fill with potting soil, and you are good to go.
How long do whiskey barrels last outdoors?
With minimal care, 10 to 20 years is common. The char acts as a natural barrier against rot, fungus, and insects. The mild maritime climate here on Vancouver Island is actually ideal.
Do you deliver barrels on Vancouver Island?
All orders are picked up by appointment at 1300 Errington Rd, Errington, BC. Delivery is available for bulk orders of 10 or more barrels anywhere on Vancouver Island.

What payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash, credit and debit cards, and Interac e-transfer.
